Pastor Darreyon Johnson faithfully serves as the 13th Senior Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Brighton, where he is committed to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, shepherding God’s people, and advancing the Kingdom of God through biblical preaching, compassionate leadership, and Christ-centered service.

Pastor Johnson was baptized at an early age and spiritually nurtured at Rushing Spring Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Pastor James E. Wright. In 2021, Pastor Johnson was called to serve as Youth & Young Adults Pastor of Greater Grace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence Jackson. There, he faithfully ministered to young people and their families through preaching, teaching, discipleship, and mentorship. He was later called to serve in the same capacity at the historic Macedonia 17th Street Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Thomas Hunter, where he continued to make a lasting impact in the lives of youth and young adults until God opened the door for him to serve as Senior Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Brighton.

Beyond his pastoral ministry, Pastor Johnson has consistently demonstrated a heart for leadership, service, and community engagement. A graduate of Huffman High School, he served as Head Drum Major of the award-winning marching band before continuing his musical journey at Alabama State University. He has also faithfully served with the “I Cared Enough” Christian Ministry, helping provide assistance to thousands of individuals and families throughout Jefferson County. Additionally, he has supported the K.I.D.S. Christian Music Summer Music Camps under the leadership of Dr. Daniel and Gwendolyn Cason, investing in the spiritual and musical development of young people.

Pastor Johnson’s commitment to servant leadership extends into civic service as well. He previously served as Chairman of Policy & Procedures on the Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Student Advisory Council, reflecting his dedication to youth advocacy, leadership development, and community involvement.

Since March 2015, he has also served with Smith & Gaston Funeral Services, where he has compassionately ministered to families during their times of bereavement with professionalism, dignity, and care.
